Old woman with childrenSareka's goal is simple: we want to provide the children at the Sihanoukville Dumpsite with the opportunity to live happy, healthy, productive lives. Some of the means to that end include the following:

1) To provide the children at the dumpsite with a creative outlet and alternative income through painting

2) To provide a consistent CAMBODIAN presence at the dumpsite to monitor, assess and address the unique needs of all the permanent residents. There are many issues that only native Cambodians can become aware of and are able to address. While other individuals and organisations provide occasional aid (a well, rice, vaccinations, etc.), Sareka is the only organisation that aims to provide consistent services to the dumpsite residents

3) To provide the residents with regular, professional healthcare

4) To provide the residents with protective clothing, footwear and face masks

5) To improve the residents' housing

6) To provide the residents with access to legal rights services

Longer term goals include:

1) To supplement the children's education with English tutoring and vocational training

2) To provide training and materials in more skilled arts and crafts to those older children and adults who show an aptitude and interest. We wish to provide access to appropriate institutions to those who wish to pursue other vocational training.

3) To give the residents at the dumpsite the opportunity to find gainful employment for themselves and their families outside of the dumpsite: i.e. - to break the cycle of poverty they are currently trapped in

4) To provide a model for projects in other disadvantaged communities in Cambodia
