What
is "Sareka?"
Sareka is a Cambodian
myna bird. But to Cambodians, Sareka is much more than
just a talking bird: it is a creative voice - a voice
that we are dedicated to giving the children of Cambodia |

these are some of the kids' homes

this is where they work

Sareka:
Cambodian Children's Arts is a registered Cambodian charitable
organisation. Founded by Director Sokha Peng, Sareka's aim
is to improve the lives of some of Cambodia's most disadvantaged
people - the children of the Sihanouk Ville dumpsite and their
families.

In December, 2007 Sokha set up
a children's painting studio at the dumpsite where the children
live and work. For the first time in their lives they were given
the opportunity to earn a living creatively - and they
love it!
Aside
from providing the children a creative outlet, Sareka's presence
at the dumpsite allows us to monitor and cater to the needs of
the entire community.
Sareka is still young, but already
we have been able to help the residents of the Sihanouk Ville
dumpsite in a variety of ways. We update our blog regularly,
so you can see for yourselves what we are doing.
