Sareka's goals
Sareka's goals are simple: we want to provide the children at the Sihanoukville Dumpsite with the opportunity to live happy, healthy, productive lives. In order to achieve our goals, we want to complete the following:
- We aim to provide the children of the dumpsite with a creative outlet and alternative income through painting.
- We want a consistent CAMBODIAN presence at the dumpsite to monitor, assess and address the unique needs of all the permanent residents. There are many issues that only native Cambodians can become aware of and are able to address.
- While other organisations provide occasional aid, such as a well, rice, vaccinations, etc, Sareka is the only organisation that aims to provide consistent services to the dumpsite residents.
- We need to provide the residents with regular, professional healthcare
- We want to provide the residents with protective clothing, footwear and face masks
- In the short term we want to improve the residents' housing at the dumpsite, and in the long run we want help the whole community move back into the village of Battrang
- We would like to provide the residents with access to legal rights services
- We need to supplement the children's education with English tutoring and vocational training
- We would like to provide training and materials for more skilled arts and crafts for the residents who show an interest
- We wish to provide the students with access to appropriate institutions for those who wish to pursue vocational training
- We aim to give the residents at the dumpsite the opportunity to find lucrative employment for themselves outside of the dumpsite, and consequently end the cycle of poverty in which they are currently trapped
- Eventually, we aim to provide a model for projects in other disadvantaged communities in Cambodia
