The
Sareka Paper Recycling Project
In May of 2008, Sareka took 4 older
boys from the Sihanouk Ville dumpsite to Siem Reap, where they learned
how to make hand-made recycled paper and paper products. Before we left,
we treated them to a day at Angkor Wat - a day none of us will soon forget!
In July, a generous donation enabled
us to buy a paper press and other materials needed to make paper here
in Sihanouk Ville. Sareka's first hand-made recycled paper product is our
range of hand-painted Xmas cards. Also, our popular
children's paintings are now being painted on this paper, with spectacular
results! We are also making plain paper, leaf & flower embedded paper
and cards and have begun experimenting with other paper products such as
boxes and bags.
If you are interested in purchasing any of Sareka's paper products or
would like to help with a donation, please let us know! Our goal in 2008-2009
is to rent premises away from the dumpsite for the residents to paint,
make paper and relax in a clean, healthy environment.
